Publication Design • Magazine Layout • Illustration
From 2014 to 2022 I designed the seasonal community programming guide for the Town of Devon. This entailed three issues per year (spring and summer, fall, and winter) and showcased town-organized activities for children and adults. Our goal with each design was to entice residents to get outside, be active, and connect with others.

In this particular project, we had some freedom with branding whereby the graphics and colour palette changed with every issue to reflect the season. However, we maintained consistency through typography and formatting. Program information was presented in a table format for ease of use.

Laying out a publication is like a puzzle, especially when production requirements call for a specific page count. To keep us on track, and aware of space available, I always make a simple thumbnail layout that allocates content to specific pages. This gives the client a chance to see how everything fits together and if content should be cut or added. This process is critical when there are advertisements to account for. I made sure all content fit together seamlessly and that there were no surprises – or advertisers left in the lurch.
The resulting publications were fun to look at, and became something that residents looked forward to each season!
The Town of Devon wanted a friendly way to communicate its bylaws to residents, and this handy little booklet does just that! We used colour-coding and icons to differentiate the booklet’s three sections (home, yard, and neighbourhood), plus tip boxes to highlight important notes.
This document is designed to be really easy to navigate and digest, which is ideal for topics that residents might otherwise find dry or confusing.
