Meet Your Pilot
I specialize in writing and designing long-form documents like reports, user manuals, publications and proposals, as well as making infographics and technical illustrations. My background in print design, technical writing, and teaching for post-secondary makes me a unique fit for your communication needs. I’m especially interested in partnering with organizations that require clear, engaging public service information, academic materials, or business-focused content designed to educate and inform customers.
My Values
AUTHENTICITY
I can’t hide it: you are working with a pragmatic nerd who puts all the razzle dazzle into the product, not the process.
LEARNING
Research and getting to know your organization is what makes a purposeful design.
EMPATHY
I look for human problems that our work can speak to, even if that’s not the surface goal.
STRATEGY
A thoughtful plan for your project energizes me to move forward with confident, laser-focused action.
Background
I’ve been in the business of making content for a very long time! Most recently, I was an instructor at the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, where I taught design, illustration and page layout for six years. But it’s been a 20-year journey in content design, getting my start with a degree in Communications and then working as a technical writer and marketing assistant.

As these jobs exposed me to the world of content creation, I went back to school for graphic design. Working at the marketing agency Primal Tribe had me specializing in advertising and print design, where I built everything from logos to product packaging. Later on I moved to the publishing world, illustrating and designing magazines for JuneWarren-Nickles Energy Group before finally establishing Aviatrix in 2013.
My design career is founded in print production, where the product has to take on a physical form in end, and therefore meet exacting specifications. Even when my work lives in the much more forgiving online world, my design pragmatism and eye for detail remains.
“Aviatrix” is an old-school term for a female aviator. It’s about letting creative ideas take flight in the hands of an experienced and well-prepared flying ace. The pilot theme comes from my attitude toward design: we’re going to have a map, a plan, and the whole crew on board. When we start a project, I’ll make sure you know exactly where we’re going and how we’re getting there (head over here for more details about my process).
