Before graphic design became my main gig, I was writer with a Communications degree (and a major in technical writing) from Grant MacEwan University. While my career changed course a bit, I never regretted learning to write well. Some of the clients I’ve worked with include:
- University of Alberta
- Town of Devon
- Beaumont Credit Union
- Sugar Swing Dance Club
Examples are available upon request. As for types of projects, there’s been a little bit of everything. I can help you with:
- Website content
- Social media posts for businesses
- E-Newsletters
- Ad copy
- Blog posts
- Brochures
- Tutorials and how-to documents
The extent of my services depends on what you need; check out some types of writing and editing services below and see where your project might fit. And if you’re not sure where your project fits, we can chat and figure it out.
Proofing: I’ll check punctuation, capitalization, hyphenation, margins, word spacing, etc. Your copy will be grammatically correct and consistent, but it will otherwise be just as you wrote it. A proofer is especially handy to have for text-heavy projects such as magazines, proposals, books, and corporate documents.
Light to Substantive Copyediting: Depending on what the client requires, I could be simply correcting grammar or I could be rewriting whole sentences and paragraphs. In a substantive copyedit, I might rework content to improve the overall readability and flow of text, rather than just ensure proper usage and grammar; I might also adjust content so that the level, tone, and focus is what you specified and is consistent throughout. To varying degrees my job is to make the text sound good and communicate your message well.
Writing: I’ll write or rewrite content for your project based on information you provide. I’ve observed that sometimes the process of gathering and writing content can really stall a project; it’s the final ingredient that not everyone has the time to prepare. A writer will get the project finished and doing its job for you.
